Details: During the backwash of the California Gold Rush in the early 1860s, Yavapai County was among the first to experience the stampede of prospectors to the inter-mountain West. At Rich Hill in today’s Weaver Mountains yielded thousands of dollars in placer gold. One acre yielded over one million dollars in gold nuggets in what became the single richest gold strike in Arizona history. A few miles further north in the Bradshaw Mountains gold was found on Lynx Creek, the richest placer stream bed in Arizona history and well into the 20th century mining in the Bradshaw’s produced millions of dollars in silver and gold.
