The field ARD test pad study at the Bagdad mine was conducted from August 2018 to July 2022. The study phases included construction of test pads, operation of water application system, monitoring of test pad seepage, and deconstruction of test pads. The objective of the study was to improve the prediction of future seepage water quality from development rock and previously acid-leached ore materials under field conditions. The Bagdad ARD test pad study is a perfect example of the Freeport Edge paradigm of pursuing value through collaboration as one Freeport. This study was a collaborative effort between multiple FMI teams, as well as Arcadis and other contractors. We will present the major findings and value addition from the study. The results obtained from this study will be used to support ongoing mine planning, permitting, and closure planning activities at the Bagdad mine and potentially other FMI mine sites.
